History1942 H.H. Swan and Sons (Sanford, NC) 1957 Robert E. Swan bought his share, moved to Albemarle and renamed it Bob Swan Company and set up a “main office” in Mount Gilead, NC. The remaining part of H.H. Swan and Sons then became H. and H. Woodyards located in Sanford. 1965 At the death of Robert E. Swan, William H. Swan, his son, came to Mount Gilead to take over Bob Swan Co, Inc. William H. Swan graduated from Catawba College in 1962 with a degree in business administration. At the time of his father’s death, he was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as manager of their Walterboro, SC store. He brought to Mount Gilead his wife, Nancy Smith Swan, a native of Albemarle, and their 2 year old son, Edward R. Swan. Their daughter, Ellen Ann Swan, was born two months after the move to Mount Gilead. William ran Bob Swan Company for 31 years, making many changes to accommodate the changing nature of the wood business. During the early years, he bought out the shares of the business that his father’s will had left to his 2 half brothers and their mother. Bob Swan Company became The Bob Swan Co., Inc., in August of 1977. William H. Swan became NC Reg. Forester #432 in June of 1978 after passing an oral examination before the NC Board of Registration for Foresters. William H. Swan owned 100% of stock by 1982. 1996 Edward R. Swan took over the management of The Bob Swan Co., Inc. with William H. Swan as his advisor. Edward R. Swan graduated from NC State University in 1985 with a degree in Forestry and is NC Reg. Forester #1005. Edward R. Swan, upon his college graduation, worked in sales for Multicomp
(a builder of trusses), then worked as a forester for Edwards Wood Products
in Marshville, NC, and as a forester, and later personnel manager for
Jordan Lumber Co. in Mount Gilead before taking over management of The
Bob Swan Co., Inc. At the present time, he continues as general manager
of the company and serves as its president. |
